Back in February this year (2021) as the world and New York was if not still in some fashion of lock down, they had various restrictions to keep the general public as socially distant and safe with Covid-19 still around and strong. By March I started looking around to see what was open in New York City as it was starting to get warmer and when Summer comes everyone is will want to be outside. As a photojournalist I do quite a bit of driving around NYC, and for as much as I heard in 2020 that NYC was dead or dying and that many persons moved out of the city and state (which I am sure many did) there was still a ridiculous amount of traffic on the roads of NYC.

For sure there is the never ending construction, there are restaurants that have taken over not just sidewalks but what used to be the parking lane on some streets.

So I thought if there are still this many cars on the road and I only went back to work and on the road since last Summer during the pandemic, and persons are still coming on to visit New York let me see what is open. For sure the Broadway shows were and are still on pause (slated to reopen September 2021), and I haven't been in a hurry to go back to a cinema just yet. However in taking the subway to work I would see ads for Edge almost so often that it would just be int the back of my mind until I looked it up and saw that it was this new observation deck that opened in the new Hudson Yards development. After checking out and deciding I would go check out this Edge it got me to thinking about the other skyscraper viewpoints that I had been to before. I ended up going to what I call the "Open 4". The Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, One World Observatory along with Edge to see how they are operating currently under Covid restrictions. This however led me to think about what else is there that I would or could do say I was a visitor to New York, because so often as locals or natives we work so much and I often hear persons say that unless you're in or close to the city there's not much to do. I also am aware that with working and trying to stay afloat in this expensive city many locals seldom know of or seek out activities that visitors come into the city and do within a short stay. I totally get it as well because you always tell yourself you can always go to this or that. Trust me I know, I'm from an island where people don't know how to swim but they will live 10 minutes away from the beach and not make it there for the year. That being said NYC is set to fully reopen in time for Summer. So far I have also visited the Intrepid Museum, and will be doing a helicopter ride over the city as well as sky diving on Long Island among other activities I find and choose to do. Shout out to some of the activities I found just per chance from scrolling through Instagram, for which I'm not mad about some aggressive marketing. Here's to a fun and safe Summer and beyond.
